Titan Mining secures graphite LOI for U.S. aerospace supply chain

Titan's New York graphite project gains an aerospace and defence customer, testing Washington's push to break China's grip on critical minerals.

Titan Mining Corporation has signed a non-binding letter of intent (LOI) with an undisclosed U.S. manufacturer serving the aerospace, defence, and advanced industrial sectors, positioning the New York-based miner as a domestic supplier of natural graphite for some of the most specification-sensitive applications in the American industrial base. The agreement, announced on 29 July 2026, is the latest signal that the race to onshore critical mineral supply chains is moving from policy aspiration to commercial contract.

Titan's wholly owned subsidiary, Empire State Mines, is developing the Kilbourne Graphite Project in New York state, which the company says would be the first fully integrated domestic natural graphite supply chain in the United States in more than 70 years. The LOI covers supply of natural graphite products from a planned commercial facility targeted for commissioning in 2028, subject to a feasibility study, project financing, and regulatory permitting. The unnamed customer has already begun product qualification testing using samples from Titan's operating demonstration plant, with the company reporting early positive results.

Critical minerals and the defence supply chain

The strategic weight of the announcement sits less in its current commercial value, the LOI is non-binding and carries no guaranteed revenue, and more in what it says about how U.S. defence procurement is repositioning upstream. Natural graphite is a U.S.-designated critical mineral used across aerospace structures, battery anodes for electric vehicles and energy storage, refractory applications in advanced manufacturing, and nuclear moderation. The critical dependency: China controls the majority of global graphite processing capacity, giving Beijing significant leverage over a material that flows into both commercial aerospace and military platforms.

Rita Adiani, Titan's President and Chief Executive Officer, said the early-stage agreement is "a powerful signal that our New York graphite measures up to the most demanding specifications in the market," adding that Titan is positioning itself as "a key American solution" as Washington and industry "double down on rebuilding domestic critical mineral supply chains."

The company has also received backing from the U.S. Export-Import Bank under its Make More in America initiative, adding a federal balance-sheet dimension to what might otherwise look like a junior miner's commercial milestone.

Convergence of defence procurement and supply-chain geography

For cross-sector strategists, the more significant read-across is not the mining story itself but the structural shift in how tier-one aerospace and defence manufacturers are building their qualification pipelines. Historically, U.S. primes sourced processed graphite from Asia on cost grounds; the combination of export-control risk, Department of Defense supply-chain directives, and the CHIPS-era politics of critical minerals is forcing qualification of domestic sources years ahead of actual commercial scale.

This creates a capital allocation opportunity that sits at the intersection of defence procurement, energy storage, and advanced manufacturing. The same graphite that qualifies for an aerospace structural application is increasingly relevant to battery-grade supply chains for EV and grid storage, meaning a miner that clears defence-grade qualification standards effectively holds a premium ticket into multiple downstream markets simultaneously. Investors tracking the critical-minerals theme, including sovereign wealth and specialist commodity funds that have been rotating into North American mining assets as a geopolitical hedge, will note that Titan's U.S. EXIM backing lowers the project finance risk profile relative to purely private-market equivalents.

The 2028 commissioning target is contingent on a feasibility study that has not yet concluded, financing that has not yet been secured, and permitting that remains in progress. The company is building its order book through a series of similar LOIs rather than a single anchor offtake, which distributes customer concentration risk but also means no single agreement de-risks the project on its own. The next material milestone for the investment thesis will be the feasibility study outcome and the first binding offtake agreement.
