Embraer Phenom 300EV is first light jet with Emergency Autoland
Embraer's Phenom 300EV has secured simultaneous type certification from Brazil's ANAC, the US Federal Aviation Administration, and the European Union Aviation Safety Agency, making it the first light jet in history to enter service with Garmin Emergency Autoland. The milestone clears the aircraft for sale across all three major regulatory jurisdictions in a single announcement, a sequencing that compresses the traditional multi-year market access timeline and signals growing regulatory alignment between Brasília, Washington and Brussels on advanced avionics standards.
The certification covers a package of safety technologies that push automation further into the light-jet category than any predecessor. At the centre is Garmin Emergency Autoland, a system that can execute a fully automated landing, including braking and directional control, if the pilot becomes incapacitated. To enable the electronically controlled autobrake and rudder-by-wire functions, Embraer developed its own Multi-Purpose Electronic Controller, a proprietary hardware layer that sits beneath the Garmin G3000 Prodigy Touch flight deck. The vertical integration of avionics software, flight control hardware and airframe is notable: it positions Embraer not merely as an airframer sourcing certified avionics, but as a systems integrator with its own certified safety-critical electronics.
Safety automation meets connectivity convergence
Beyond emergency autonomy, the Phenom 300EV introduces a cabin connectivity architecture that reflects a broader shift in business aviation. The aircraft ships with a line-fit LEO satellite solution powered by Gogo Galileo, while Starlink connectivity will be available as an aftermarket option via a Supplemental Type Certificate. The coexistence of two competing low-earth-orbit networks on a single platform is commercially significant: it mirrors the "multi-cloud" logic now standard in enterprise IT, where buyers insist on optionality rather than vendor lock-in. For business aviation operators, that optionality is increasingly a procurement criterion as always-on connectivity becomes table stakes for high-net-worth and corporate passengers.
Performance figures underline the aircraft's positioning. Range is rated at 2,055 nautical miles with four passengers and NBAA IFR reserves, an increase on the outgoing Phenom 300E, and the company says it is the fastest and furthest-flying aircraft in the light-jet category. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2028.

The triple certification carries implications beyond business aviation. Emergency Autoland represents a meaningful data point in the broader debate over autonomous flight certification: regulators in three jurisdictions have now signed off on a system that can execute a landing without human input in a live commercial aircraft. That precedent matters for the urban air mobility sector, where companies including Joby Aviation, Archer and Wisk are seeking type certificates for aircraft whose autonomous or semi-autonomous modes are central to their operating models. Every certified autonomy milestone on a conventional airframe narrows the regulatory unknown for next-generation platforms.
From a capital-allocation perspective, the business aviation market sits at a useful intersection for cross-sector investors. Demand for new light and mid-size jets has been sustained by the post-pandemic structural shift toward fractional ownership and private charter, which itself reflects a reallocation of corporate travel budgets away from commercial airline exposure. The Phenom 300EV's 2028 delivery slot suggests Embraer is targeting a backlog cycle that aligns with the next wave of fleet renewal among fractional operators in North America and the Gulf. Sovereign and institutional buyers with positions in both aerospace and connectivity infrastructure will be watching whether the Gogo Galileo and Starlink dual-network strategy accelerates similar arrangements across the wider business aviation fleet, or whether it fragments the LEO cabin-connectivity market before it has consolidated.
