ShareMatch targets 1.5bn Muslim fans with Shariah sports investing AI

A pre-launch media deal with Footballco signals Gulf capital's bet on agentic AI, ethical finance and sports converging for MENA audiences.

ShareMatch, a Riyadh- and London-based fintech startup, has announced a strategic media and user-acquisition partnership with Footballco ahead of its commercial launch later this year. The deal gives ShareMatch access to Footballco's network of 179 million Arabic-speaking football fans across the MENA region, embedding the platform within properties including GOAL, Kooora, Yalla Goal and Yalla Fans. The partnership places an agentic AI investing platform inside the world's largest digital football media company, targeting a Muslim consumer base the startup estimates at 1.5 billion people globally.

The timing is deliberate. Saudi Arabia is accelerating its Vision 2030 sports and financial services agenda, and is set to host the AFC Asian Cup in 2027 and the FIFA World Cup in 2034. The two companies say they intend to scale the partnership continuously through both tournaments, treating the decade as a sustained commercial runway rather than a single campaign window.

Agentic AI meets ethical finance

The technical core of the deal links ShareMatch's HAL AI agentic engine with Footballco's proprietary Goal-e AI infrastructure, creating what the companies describe as a unified layer for analysing football content and data from GOAL and Kooora. The product framing is notable: ShareMatch characterises its platform not as a fantasy-sport or prediction tool, but as a Shariah-compliant investing architecture, with autonomous agents making data-driven decisions within an ethical finance structure that prohibits interest-bearing instruments and speculative trades not grounded in real economic activity.

"We are setting a new standard at the intersection of artificial intelligence, ethical finance and sports," said Rakan Alsulaimani, Managing Director of ShareMatch Saudi Arabia. "This collaboration allows us to bring on-chain, in many cases for the very first time, the global population of 1.5 billion digital Muslims."

The "on-chain" language is worth noting: ShareMatch's architecture appears to incorporate distributed ledger principles to ensure transparency in its ethical finance structures, though the release does not specify the underlying blockchain or token mechanics. Capital, convergence and the Gulf sports economy

The strategic context extends beyond football media. Saudi Arabia's sovereign wealth apparatus, led by the Public Investment Fund, has committed substantial capital to sports assets globally, from Premier League club ownership to golf and Formula 1. A Shariah-compliant retail investing platform embedded inside mass-market sports media represents a logical next layer of that infrastructure: rather than institutions buying sports assets, it enables a much broader consumer base to participate financially in the sports economy under Islamic finance principles.

The agentic AI dimension adds a second convergence layer. Where earlier fintech platforms in the Gulf offered human-directed, rules-based Shariah screening of conventional investment products, an agentic model implies autonomous decision-making operating continuously within ethical guardrails. That is a material step in complexity, and its regulatory treatment under the Saudi Capital Market Authority and equivalent GCC regulators remains an open question the release does not address.

For cross-sector investors, the opportunity landscape here touches three distinct capital pools. First, the Gulf's Islamic finance market, which exceeded $3 trillion in assets under management globally as of recent industry estimates. Second, the sports media rights economy, where Footballco's 800 million monthly users represent a distribution asset of genuine scale. Third, the emerging agentic AI application layer, where financial services is one of the few verticals with both the compliance complexity and the data richness to make autonomous agents commercially meaningful rather than cosmetic.

ShareMatch has not disclosed funding details, valuation or the revenue-share structure underpinning the Footballco deal. The user-acquisition campaign is expected to roll out across Saudi Arabia and the GCC in the coming months, ahead of a global platform launch that the company says will follow later this year. Whether the platform's regulatory approvals across MENA jurisdictions are already in place, or still pending, would be a key editorial question before broader coverage.
