On October 15, more than 600 fintech professionals, private investors and European Union regulators will gather in Riga for UN:BLOCK Fintech, a one-day conference exploring the issues reshaping financial services. Key topics will include MiCA regulation, cross-border payments, capital mobilisation, artificial intelligence, financial literacy, and partnerships between banks and fintech companies.

One of the conference’s key discussions will focus on Latvia’s underutilised capital, with approximately €9 billion held in savings and pension assets. In the session “Who Wakes Up Latvia’s €9 Billion Dormant Capital?”, industry representatives will explore how to channel more of this capital into investment and economic development. Panellists will include Dana Gorina (Digilo), Nauris Bloks (Twino), Mārtiņš Valters (Mintos) and Māra Meiere (AS Crefo Birojs).

MiCA regulation and its impact on the crypto-asset sector will also feature prominently. In the session “5 CEOs Behind Latvia’s First MiCA Licences”, company leaders will share their experiences with the licensing process and discuss what it means for business growth across the European Union. Panellists will include Can Sun (Backpack EU), Alex Novozhenov (Nodu), Sławek Zawadzki (Kanga Exchange) and Vytautas Zabulis (H Finance).

A separate discussion on cross-border payments will bring together representatives from Bolt, Paybis, Nexpay, SEB and Latvijas Banka to examine why international payments can still be slow and costly.

The programme will also feature discussions on the development of the Baltic fintech ecosystem, partnerships between banks and businesses, financial literacy and the future of payments. Practical workshops will cover MiCA, licensing for payment and electronic money institutions, crowdfunding and AML requirements. Participants will also have the opportunity to meet with experts from Latvijas Banka and other industry organisations.

Latvia is emerging as a launchpad for fintech and crypto companies looking to build and scale across Europe. A growing ecosystem, forward-looking regulation and a crypto-friendly business environment make the country an increasingly attractive base for EU-wide businesses. Latvia is also among the pioneers in creating practical ways for companies to work with digital assets, including allowing company share capital to be paid in crypto, with further digital-asset initiatives on the way.

“Northern Europe’s fintech scene continues to grow, attracting increasing interest from businesses and retail investors alike. We believe the UN:BLOCK Fintech Forum will create valuable opportunities for business development, while giving private investors the chance to explore emerging sectors, innovative financial products, and compelling new investment opportunities,” says Reinis Znotiņš, Executive Director of The Latvian Blockchain Association.

UN:BLOCK Fintech will bring together more than 600 founders, regulators, investors and experts shaping the future of financial technology. Participants will include representatives from companies such as Bolt, SEB, Citadele, Twino, Paybis, Backpack EU, NBX and other leading industry players. Conference partners include the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), Magnetiq Bank, Digilo, Nexpay, Mastercard, Bolt, Mintos and Tribe Payments.

The UN:BLOCK Fintech programme will feature panel discussions, expert presentations and thematic workshops. This format will give participants the opportunity to stay up to date with the latest industry developments, explore topics in greater depth and build new professional connections. The conference is designed to offer practical value to every participant – from early-stage startup founders to leaders of established companies.

UN:BLOCK Fintech is a new one-day conference from the team behind Northern Europe's leading annual blockchain and fintech conference UN:BLOCK Europe, taking place in Riga on March 10-11, 2027. The conference is organized in cooperation with the Latvian Blockchain Association.

Support is provided within the framework of the project “Support for the Improvement of the Technology Transfer System”, co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund and the Latvian state budget.
